Medicine runs in Dr. Meka’s blood, literally. With his father and several other family members being physicians and in related healthcare fields, Dr. Meka knew that being a doctor was what he was meant to do. He knew from an early age that he wanted to help people live healthy lives and to help make a difference in their lives. Dr. Meka grew up in nearby West Point, so he has been a member of this community for most of his life. When Dr. Meka isn’t treating patients in the office or making rounds at East Alabama Medical Center, he loves to spend time with his wife, Dr. Powar, and their son, Teghan. You can often find him on his Harley Davidson, or riding one of his cars around town.
Ruby Powar, MD

Dr. Powar has devoted her life to helping people. She knew as a child she wanted a career where she could help people, and being a doctor was the natural choice for her. Dr. Powar grew up in Vancouver, Canada, so her friendly and welcoming Canadian outlook blends in well with her adopted Southern hometown of Auburn. Dr. Powar enjoys spending time with her husband, Dr. Meka, and their son, Teghan. She enjoys crafting, cooking, and creating fun games to play with Teghan.
Shelby Fitch, PA-C, MPAS
PA School: Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, PA
Helping people has always been a passion of Shelby’s, however, it wasn’t until high school when she was in an accident that she realized medicine was what she wanted to do with her life after a PA treated her in the ER. Shelby grew up in a military family where her childhood was spent in California before relocating to the Pennsylvania/Ohio area. Family is very important to Shelby, which is what brought her down to Alabama. When not at the office you’ll find Shelby with her husband and their two children. Shelby’s favorites are sports, especially volleyball since she played throughout college. She loves to travel and be outdoors; most especially hiking, scuba diving, skiing, and white water rafting.
